Miami Art Week brings the best exhibitions and experiences, setting the stage for a vibrant peak season. Though art week passes quickly, Miami residents and visitors have the advantage of a longer window to really savor these shows. Incredible culture is part of the city’s appealing lifestyle and why so many people, from entrepreneurs to empty nesters move here.

Saatchi Yates 

Hot off his inaugural solo show for London’s Saatchi Yates gallery, Nigerian artist [Olaolu] Slawn exhibits at its pop up (70 NE 40th Street, Miami; November 26-December 10). Coming from a background in skate culture and streetwear design, he explores societal issues through a fusion of Abstract Expressionism and street art. The 2022 Sotheby’s Contemporary Curated sale marked his auction debut.

MDD Design Commission 

For its 10th annual Design Commission, the Miami Design District shows Nicole Nomsa Moyo’s Pearl Jam. The South African architect, urban planner and designer imports her homeland’s culture in collaborating with female artisans of the Ndebele tribe. Their vibrant, intricate beadwork adorns neighborhood trees and forms large-scale, interactive installations inspired by jewelry.

LVMH Culture House

The immersive activation LVMH Culture House highlights artists’ voices from underrepresented groups. View works by established and emerging artists like Kandy G Lopez and Yuki Ando as well as student artists, and attend speaker panels with tastemakers, LVMH brand presidents, entrepreneurs and more (151 NE 41st Street, 3rd floor, Miami; December 4-8).

Tribeca Festival 

Though more associated with film, Tribeca Festival is also at the forefront of music and movements. Its third annual Miami event features a conversation with pop star Camila Cabello, Magdalena Bay concert and screening of the 1996 classic “The Birdcage” filmed in Miami (Miami Beach Bandshell, December 4-7).

Faena Art

Known for annual installations on the beach behind Faena Hotel, Faena Art’s 2024 site-specific commission is Native Alaskan artist Nicholas Galanin’s Seletega (run, see if people are coming/corre a ver si viene gente) modeled on a colonial Spanish galleon. South African artist Lyra Drake’s Infinite Faith in a Finite World is concurrently on view in Faena Hotel Cathedral (December 3-8; invite-only preview, December 2).

Rubell Museum Miami 

Following her sold-out booth in Frieze London’s Artist-to-Artist section last year, British painter Vanessa Raw was selected as the 2024 artist-in-residence for Rubell Museum Miami. Works depicting blissful, female nudes in lush, fairy-tale settings are on view beginning December 2 (opening reception, December 3, 8-10 PM). The space also unveils new Italian eatery Jon & Vinny’s.

Jeffrey Deitch 

Rather than his usual collaboration with Gagosian, Jeffrey Deitch strikes out on his own this year with “Austin Lee: Psychomachia.” Paintings, sculpture and video art showcase the artist’s signature process of mixing the digital age and traditional art techniques. Lee named the exhibition as a tribute to Prudentius’s poem “Psychomachia” told through visual art in the Giotto Chapel (35 NE 40th Street, Miami; December 2-8).

Cartier Trinity Centennial 

Celebrate the centennial anniversary of Cartier’s Trinity collection during its pop-up activation (23 NE 41st Street, Miami; December 4-8; invitation-only preview, December 3). Visitors tour several spaces from a tribute to Jean Cocteau, who put his own spin on Trinity rings, to fresh variations and cult pieces to try on.

Gucci Boule de Neige

Celebrating Art Basel and the holiday season, Gucci installs its Boule de Neige in Sweet Bird North Plaza (95 NE 40th Street, Miami; November 27-January 7; private opening party, December 3, 6-9 PM). Kids of all ages can snack on Gucci-branded treats while being enchanted by the age-old souvenir that further pays homage to the brand’s travel heritage.
